“Enjoy Your Visit : Get to know the USA Vol 1”
そういえば、最近は英語の勉強をしていないな？と思った。昔は英語の読本なども読んでいたが・・・・仕事には困らないくらいになったら、さっぱりな感じです。本棚には読んだ本！読んでない本？易しい本！難しい本？などならんでいるので、また、読み返してみようかな？と思いました。
Paper backなどまだまだですが、「めざせ！Paper Backeｒ ! !」って感じでしょうか？っということでまずは Ladder Bookから始めてみようかと！
（注） Paper Backerなる英語は、なさそうです。
“Enjoy Your Visit” は、Get to know the USA シリーズの第１巻である。アメリカの旅を想定した実用書である。内容は、Part 1 と Part 2に分かれ、Part 1でアメリカの概要が説明され、Part ２で実際のアメリカの旅の実践的な情報が集められている。
ラダーシリーズのLevel 4 （２０００語）であるが、実用書であるので、文学的な表現も少なく、わかりやすい英語で、抵抗なく読むことができる。
この本はPart1と２に分かれ
“ Part 1 covers general of information and American culture.”と書いてあって、要はアメリカ合衆国の概説である。ここではアメリカの国土の大きさやさまざまな気候、政事や文化などについて書かれている。
それに対してPart 2 は、この本のTitle “Enjoy Your Visit”の通りの内容、つまり、“Part 2 gives you practical information to help you get around and enjoy your stay in USA!” となっている。
この本は“Get to know the USA Vol 1“であるが、続巻として” Get to Know the USA Vol.2: Enjoy Your Stay“がある。
内容とレベルの紹介として、Part 1とPart 2 より、一文ずつ抜粋しておこう。二つ目の「バス追い越し禁止」は、厳密だそうで、ボクもアメリカに出張したときに注意されました。
It is wonderful to be free. However, freedom has its responsibility. More freedom for individual must shoulder more responsibility. You therefore could say America is a country of freedom and a country of responsibility. It is easy to accept freedom. But it may not be so easy to accept to responsibility the comes with it. Beware of buses
Although traffic rules, such as speed limits, are different from state to state, the basic rules are the same. For foreign drivers, one of the important rules other than driving on the right side of the road, is the rule about school buses. When you see a school bus stopping to pick up or droop off children, you are not allowed to pass the bus, whether it is coming toward you or going away form you. If the bus is coming toward you, you must stop and wait for the bus to pass you before you can move again. When you are following a bus you must wait for it each time it stops. This can be quite a bother, but don’t break this rule unless you want to in trouble. (p.72)（抜粋）
